Vincent W.J. van Gerven Oei is a philosopher, philologist, and artist. In his artistic work he focuses on the analogies between written and plastic form. His recent work explores the concept of “textual intervention.” In collaboration with visual artist Jonas Staal, he produced numerous projects and publications, including Follow Us or Die (New York: Atropos Press, 2009), and has been artist in residence in InCUBATE (Chicago), Tokyo Wonder Site, Dagaocun Art District (Beijing), and The Bag Factory (Johannesburg). Recent publications include “The Old Nubian Memorial for King George” (in Nubian Voices. Warsaw, 2011) and The Miracle of Saint Mina (with El-Shafie El-Guzuuli. Tirana/The Hague: Uitgeverij, 2012). Van Gerven Oei teaches philosophy at the University of New York in Tirana and art theory at the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague, and is a contributing editor to the online journal continent.
